National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences
The Department of Nursing is one of the four Departments of the School of Health Sciences of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. It has been operating since 1980 in Goudi with the mission the comprehensive education of nursing scientists at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.
It offers a 4-year undergraduate program, 4 postgraduate programs, 4 programs in collaboration with other academic Departments and Schools, as well as a doctorate program. The Department’s operation is supported by 20 laboratories in 5 scientific fields.
The Department hosts 35 members of Teaching Research Staff (DEP), 8 members of Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP), 6 members of Special Technical Laboratory Staff (ETEP) as well as Administrative Staff.
It operates 5 units/departments: Basic Sciences, Public Health, Pathology -Nursing, Surgery -Nursing, Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences.
Merimna is a civil, not-for-profit company that provides quality care to meet the needs of children and their families, who either live with a life-threatening illness or mourn the loss of a loved one. Its services are offered for free. In particular, Merimna offers:
- Pediatric Palliative Care Services at Home, in Athens, providing medical, nursing and psychosocial care to children and adolescents suffering from a life-threatening illness.
- Counseling Center Services for Children and Families in Mourning, in Athens and Thessaloniki, with a psychological support telephone line operating daily
- Specialized training for health, mental health professionals, educators and field workers who support refugee minors
- Έρευνα σε θέματα που αφορούν τις ψυχοκοινωνικές επιπτώσεις της σοβαρής ασθένειας και του θανάτου στη ζωή των παιδιών και των οικογενειών τους.
- Sensitization of Greek society on issues related to life, death, illness and grief.
Merimna was founded in 1995 and during the 25 years of its operation, it has supported 50.000 children and members of their families, 5,000 teachers, 900 health professionals and more than 900 employees in structures for the accommodation of unaccompanied minor refugees.
Merimna is certified according to ISO 9001 for the provision of clinical and educational services to children, teenagers, families and communities in serious ailment and death.
International Hellenic University Nursing Department
Το Τμήμα Νοσηλευτικής, γνωστό έως πρόσφατα Αλεξάνδρειο Τεχνολογικό Εκπαιδευτικό Iνστιτούτο που λειτουργεί από το 1973 στη Σίνδο Θεσσαλονίκης, προσφέρει ένα τετραετές προπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα σπουδών στη Νοσηλευτική και δυο μεταπτυχιακά προγράμματα: στη Φροντίδα στο Σακχαρώδη Διαβήτη και το Διατμηματικό, στη Διοίκηση Μονάδων Υγείας & Πρόνοιας σε συνεργασία με το Τμήμα Διοίκησης Οργανισμών, Μάρκετινγκ και Τουρισμού. To τμήμα διαθέτει 3 Ερευνητικά Εργαστήρια.
Το όραμά του Τμήματος είναι να συμβάλλει στη βελτίωση των προτύπων της παροχής νοσηλευτικών υπηρεσιών στην Ελλάδα και να διασφαλίσει την ποιότητα ζωής όσων ωφελούνται από υπηρεσίες υγείας. Στόχος είναι η προετοιμασία μελλοντικών επιστημόνων υγείας προκειμένου να διαθέτουν άρτιες γνώσεις καθώς και νοσηλευτικές και ψυχοκοινωνικές δεξιότητες, ώστε να ανταποκρίνονται με επάρκεια και υπευθυνότητα στους μελλοντικούς τους ρόλους. Με την απόκτηση του πτυχίου οι νοσηλευτές μπορούν να εργαστούν τόσο στην κοινότητα, όσο και σε δομές πρωτοβάθμιας, δευτεροβάθμιας και τριτοβάθμιας περίθαλψης ατόμων, οικογενειών και κοινοτήτων, ενώ παράλληλα συμβάλλουν στην οργάνωση και τη διοίκηση υπηρεσιών υγείας, την εκπαίδευση και την έρευνα.
The department’s aim is to promote the development and transmission of scientific knowledge and skills through theoretical teaching, laboratory, clinical practice and applied research. It promotes multinational cooperation to improve nursing education (i.e. Erasmus Intensive Courses for Nurses, focusing on evidence-based practices in the care of adults and the elderly).
